Run Away Pepper

Materials:
bowl glass of water pepper dish soap

Directions:

• 1)  Put the water into the bowl. 
• 2)  Sprinkle the pepper into the bowl. 
• 3)  Put a dab of the dish soap on your finger. 
• 4)  Put your finger into the center of the bowl. 
• 5)  What happens? 

Inquiring Minds Want to Know

The pepper moves to the sides of the bowl because the soap breaks the surface or water tension. It is almost like it is coated with an invisible film.
