 FUN Reading Lessons

Learning to read is marvelous early learning fun!  Let's get started with Lesson 1!

Children will Love to Learn to Read
1) Leveled Books- There are 5 books at each level that you can print off so kids can read the leveled books over and over. Children can also read and listen to these books on the videos over and over. Make sure your child is using “Reading Strategies” (Meaning, Sentence Structure, & Word Wisdom). Always give a great introduction to the book and reread to keep the “meaning” of the story. If the sentence being read does not make sense say, “Does that sound right or does that make sense?” If your child gets stuck on a word say, “Let’s get the word started or what chunks do you know in that word?” Make sure your child is reading fluently, that way they will always keep the meaning of the story.
2) Word Wisdom
Word FamiliesKids love to do “Word Families” because it is rhyming and seeing patterns in words. You can print off the Word Family books and Bingo Games to play over and over. There are videos where your child can play right along with the Bingo Games and read along with the Word Family Books.
Sight Words- Here are words that you really want to know! Print off the Bingo Games, Sight Word Books, and Check-Ups. There are also videos to play the bingo games and your child can read right along with the Sight Word Books.
3) Sentence Structure- Have your child write a sentence, you can help them write the sentence. As you help your child write the sentence you will see what letter sounds they know, what letters they can write, what words they know, what they know about words, & sentences structure. Then take the sentences, write each word from the sentence on an index card, mix up the words, and have your child put the sentence back together (like a puzzle). They will start to see words, word parts, and learn how a sentence is put together.
4) On Your Own-This is a chart that is a great reminder of what you need to do at each Wisdom Level.
***Praise ALL accomplishments and make reading & writing fun!
